Finding the Right Exercise for Your Personality Type

Isn’t it amazing that we each have our own unique personality? Life would be boring if we didn’t! Some of us enjoy living life to the fullest and exploring all the opportunities the world has to offer. Others like the simple things, such as reading a book in a nice, cozy chair or finally having enough money to buy the video game they have always wanted. And then there are those who want to eat healthy and exercise…I’m not going to lie and say I’m one of those people, but I’m trying, okay!?

But YOU wouldn’t be here if you weren’t at least interested in exercising and you may be actively looking for a workout that suits you. It can be hard, I know, but a good place to start is with your personality. An introverted person like myself would prefer activities that they can do alone and at their own pace. An extrovert, however, may want to do group activities that allow them to socialize with others. Not every exercise routine fits everyone and that’s completely fine!

If an exercise does not fit your personality, you’ll find yourself less motivated to do it. Think of it like a project you have to do for school or work and it’s about science. If you don’t like science, then the project will just be boring to you and you’ll have to force yourself to complete it, because…well, you have to. That shouldn’t be your only motivation to exercise. Exercise should also be fun!

Let’s go over a couple of exercises that may be just what you’re looking for. For those who rather stay away from a crowd, why don’t you invest in a yoga mat? Because you can always stay home and do some yoga while following an instructor on a video or you could just meditate. You feel good when both your mind and body are at ease, right?

But if you’re someone who believes “teamwork makes the dream work”, then group exercises might be your thing! Play some sports like basketball or baseball. Join a dance class and learn cool moves that you can show off to your friends and family. Do a relay race or cycle around town with your pals. You and your group will be having fun together and you’ll be keeping yourself healthy in the process. It’s a win-win!

Maybe you’re looking for something more casual and I totally respect that. Not all exercises have to be so draining, you know? You can do something as simple as walking around your neighborhood or take a dip in the pool. Even chores can be exercise like vacuuming the house and washing the dishes. Go and mop the floors or run up and down the stairs! You could even put on some music to make the time go by faster.

And speaking of fast, if you’re looking for an exercise that is fast-paced and exhilarating, these exercises might be more your speed. You should probably take out those jump ropes you’ve had sitting in your closet for years and do some double dutch. I suck at it, but maybe you’ll fare better at the sport than I do! Or would you rather take your chances at rock climbing? Nothing is more exhilarating than finally reaching the peak of a mountain and looking down at the scenery below, feeling like you’re on top of the world.

Now if you really want to try and push your body to the absolute limit, of course people would say to lift some weights! But don’t immediately go for the biggest weights in the gym. Start off small and gradually get into lifting heavier weights when you feel you’re ready for it. Or if you’re not into weight lifting, you can do some push-ups or curl-ups. Trust me, they may not sound like much, but you’ll definitely feel the burn sooner or later.

Did any of these exercises stand out to you? Or is there something else you’re looking for? Feel free to look for some exercises on your own and I’m sure you’ll eventually find the right one for you. I just hope this article is a good start on your exercising journey. Work hard and have fun, guys!
